Thailand and the Convention on Biological Diversity

 
  Thailand had signed the Convention on Biological Diversity during the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 1992

  The National Committee on the Convention on Biological Diversity Board (NEB). The mandate of the Committee covers addressing obligation of the Convention, expediting the ratification of the Convention and formulating of the National Policies, Measures and Plans on the Convention and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity

  Since the signing of the Convention, Thailand has undertaken various activities and initiative is to conserve the nation's biological wealth in accordance with the Convention. Along with the preparation for ratification of the Convention, which had been coordinated by the Office of Environment Policy and Planing, as the national focal point of the CBD and the Secretariat of the National Committee on the CBD

  In order to implement the Convention, Thailand Biodiversity Country Study had been compiled, followed by the formulation of the year 1998-2002, and drafting the Ministerial Regulation on the Convention and Sustainable Utilization of Biodiversity, which had been approved by the Cabinet on the July 15th, 1997

 Under the National Policies, Measures and Plans on Convention and Utilization of Biodiversity, ONEP had studied and monitored status and trend of biodiversity ; analyzed and identified gaps and problems in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity ; assessed and produced reports on the implementation of the above – mentioned policies ; developed Thailand Biodiversity DaTa Management ; coordinated biodiversity management at local level ; and awareness on biodiversityat regional and local level.

  After The Cabinet had approved the ratification of the CBD, Ministry of Foreign Affairs had undertaken the ratification process. Finally, Thailand had ratified the CBD on October 31st, 2003 , and had entered into force since January 29th , 2004 , as the 188th Contracting Party.
