Key Decisions of Meetings of Committee on Conservation and Use of Biodiversity

The 3rd meeting of 2007 (26 December 2007): The meeting

• assigned the secretary to the committee to revise, based on the comments of the meetings, a draft Committee on Conservation and Use of Biodiversity’s regulation on criteria of access to biological resources and benefit sharing
• agreed in principle to the draft Cabinet resolution on measures on prevention and eradication of alien species
• agreed in principle to the decision of UN General Assembly on International Year of Biodiversity in 2010, and assigned the secretary to invite associated agencies to participate in developing an action plan for the International Year of Biodiversity and then to submit the action plan to the Cabinet to approve and declare year 2010 as International Year of Biodiversity.

The 1st meeting of 2008 (7 May 2008): The meeting

• agreed with the draft Committee on Conservation and Use of Biodiversity’s regulation on criteria of access to biological resources and benefit sharing, and assigned the secretary to adjust its wordings pursuant to the comments of the meeting, and to submit the draft regulation to the Cabinet.
• agreed in principle to the position and talking points of Thailand for COP 9.

Key Decisions of Meetings of Subcommittee on the Convention on Biological Diversity

The 1st meeting of 2008 (17 January 2008): The meeting

• assigned the secretary to prepare information, pursuant to the recommendation of the meeting, for attending the 6th ad hoc working group on access and benefit sharing in Switzerland.
• agreed in principle to Biodiversity Target 2010: Business Engagement on Biodiversity, and assigned the secretary to revise the components of the working group for this activity.

The 2nd meeting of 2008 (7 February 2008): The meeting

• agree with Thailand’s comment for the ad hoc working group on protected areas.
• appointed Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) as the focal point for the projects implemented under NBSAP ver.3 (2008-2012), and assigned the relevant agencies to prepare their own budget plans for NBSAP activities between 2009-2010.
• agreed with the action plan for International Year of Biodiversity 2010.

The 3rd meeting of 2008 (26 March 2008): The meeting

• agreed with Thailand’s preparation to attend COP-9 during 19 – 30 May 2008, in Bonn, Germany.
• assigned ONEP to issued an official letter informing NBSAP-related agencies to prepare fiscal plans to implement NBSAP activities which are under their responsibilities. In this regard, the meeting assigned every committee to carry out procedures within his agency for this matter and inform the focal point (ONEP) of planned budgets.

The 4th meeting of 2008 (2 May 2008): The meeting

• The meeting agreed with Thailand’s comments and delegate assignment for COP-9, and request the delegation to report on the result of the conference to the meeting.
